Privacy Policy

Overview

Scan Tip is designed to calculate tips, scan receipts, and optionally save dining history on your device. A Scan Tip account is not required. You may optionally use Sign in with Apple to create an in-app profile with your Apple-provided name, or enter a display name and choose a profile photo yourself. Scan Tip does not request your Apple email address or contacts.

Information Stored On Your Device

If you choose to save tip history, custom presets, or a profile, Scan Tip stores those items with SwiftData and may sync them through your private iCloud container when iCloud is available. This may include bill amounts, tip amounts, total amounts, restaurant names you enter or scan, optional place details and coordinates when location permission is granted, your profile display name, the identifier returned to Scan Tip by Sign in with Apple, and an optional profile photo. App preferences such as appearance and onboarding status remain on the device. If you save a scanned receipt, its image is stored in local app storage on your device.

You can delete local app data from the app's privacy and data settings.

Location

Scan Tip requests location access only after you enable place details in Settings. If you grant permission, the app uses the current location to attach an optional place name, address area, coordinates, and map preview to saved tip history. Location details are stored with the saved history item and may sync through your private iCloud container when iCloud is available. You can deny permission or turn the option off and continue using the calculator and scanner without location details.

Camera And Receipt Scanning

Scan Tip may request camera access so you can scan receipts. Receipt scanning is used to read receipt text, identify totals, detect possible included service charges or gratuity, and suggest a tip. Receipt text and parsed fields are processed for app functionality and are not used to create an account profile. On supported devices, Apple’s on-device language model may refine receipt fields; Scan Tip does not send receipt text to a Scan Tip server for this feature.

Purchases

Scan Tip Pro purchases and restores are handled by Apple’s App Store with RevenueCat. Apple processes payment information. RevenueCat processes App Store subscription, transaction, and entitlement information together with an app-specific RevenueCat identifier so the app can present subscriptions, restore purchases, and determine access to Pro features. Scan Tip starts with an anonymous RevenueCat identifier and does not use purchase information for advertising.

Apple Intelligence

On supported devices and operating systems, Scan Tip may use Apple's on-device language model features to refine receipt details. This processing is intended to improve receipt parsing inside the app.

Advertising

Scan Tip does not include an advertising SDK in the current release.

Analytics And Diagnostics

The current release has no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or attribution SDK. Debug-only app events may be printed locally during development; saved tip history is not sent to a Scan Tip analytics service.
